When it comes to protecting trees from the deadly damage caused by beetle infestation, there’s nothing that works better than Pro Earth Products’ Beetle Guard, an environmentally responsible product developed to address the devastation caused to trees by bark beetles and other beetle species.

Saving the Trees
Although they may look innocent and benign, bark beetles are anything but. These aggressive insects bore into trees where they create elaborate tunnels that weaken a tree’s structure. In the tunnels they lay millions of eggs, and when the larvae hatch, the result is beetle infestation. The resident beetles create a fungus that impacts a tree’s water transport system. If a tree can’t absorb water, it will eventually die.

Saving trees from this devastation is the goal of Beetle Guard, a new product from Pro Earth Products. A naturally occurring Colloid is combined with a variety of plant extracts, sequesterants, surfactants and hyper-wetting agents to create Beetle Guard. The resulting solution keeps beetles from taking up residence in trees. When used on an annual basis, Beetle Guard can provide lifelong protection against beetle infestation.

Applying Beetle Guard
Pro Earth’s Beetle Guard is applied as a spray, creating a protective layer on top of the tree’s bark that repels beetles and breaks up existing fungi. Beetle Guard is completely harmless to the rest of the tree and the surrounding environment. It is 99% biodegradable, non-hazardous, non-flammable, and safe for exposure to people, livestock and pets.

International testing has shown that the product is effective at completely eliminating bark beetles.

CASE STUDY: Japanese Forests Healthier Thanks to Beetle Guard
In Japan, lumber companies and foresters had been puzzled for more than a decade by the heavy loss of pine trees occurring in managed coniferous forests there. Although dead trees were found to be infested with beetles, scientists believed for years that the trees had died of other causes and the beetles had only taken up residence to help with decomposition. More recent studies, however, concluded that the actual cause of tree death was the bark beetle itself.

Pro Earth Products offered their assistance, providing Beetle Guard to the Japanese government for testing. Improvements were seen almost immediately after spraying, with dramatic results realized within the first year. Today annual maintenance using Beetle Guard is a regular part of forest management in many Japanese forests.
